The famous Nighthawks (1942) by Edward Hopper.
Bartender: “I can’t believe you’re back in town! Never thought I’d live to see the day John McKempoll strolled back into Phillies again. And with a girl too! Hold on, let me get you two a couple of drinks, on the house.” *Reaches for drinks under the cupboard* “What’ll it be?”
John: *Chuckles* “Glad to see you never change Tom. I’ll have a coffee, black. And this is Karla by the way.”
Karla: “Nice to meet you Tom. I’ll have what John’s having.”
John: *Looks at Karla* “Really? Never met a woman who takes her coffee black.”
Karla: “Well, I do…”
Tom: “Come on John, shouldn’t you know your ladies preferences by now?”
John: “Actually we just met. Gave her a ride coming here.”
Tom: *Pause* “And why did you come here?”
John: *Silence*
Tom: *Shakes head* “Same old John, looking for trouble again.”
John: “That’s not why I came back.”
Tom: “Good, because Clyde is still in town.”

For the FearTales series that I have running, I’ve been asking a couple of friends of mine to talk about something that they were scared of and how they overcame it. These were very personal stories, so each one I recieved I handled with the utmost care. It means a lot to be trusted with someone’s personal story.
So, even if I haven’t truly conquered it yet, I find it only fitting that I (finally) share my own.

This is a book review.
But a different kind of book review.
One in which I agree and disagree with the author on a lot of things… Which, for me, makes it all the better of a review.
I’ve decided to review not the book, but the idea behind the book. There are enough reviews of the book itself out there. First things first though:
A Little About The Author.
Dragoas Roa is one of the few people who’s blogs I still read (I’m down to 20 blogs). He phrases his blog as “Brilliantly Better”, but I have to call it “Realistic Personal Development”. Most self improvement bloggers will tell you how to live life better, but once you take a look at their bio you realize that they don’t lead that great of a life (harsh but true). Dragos is different. His posts ooze “life experience”. You can tell he’s lived, that’s he’s not a just a preacher, but a doer.
So when he released Assess – Decide- Do, I was thrilled to review it.

The Screaming Eagle.
A massive wooden roller coaster that consumed much of the St. Louis Theme Park. Its enormous size and sharp turns made my stomach turn with anticipation. I remember it like yesterday.
“Daddy I don’t want to go on that. It’s scary.” Within seconds dozens of screaming riders zoomed by as the line slowly inched along. My 10 year old mind couldn’t comprehend that people would voluntarily buckle up, for what must have been their assured death. Heights and intense speed were not my thing.

Fear breeds creativity.
No words rang truer in the winter of 2008. I had just started my TV show, The Rise To The Top.
I had just invested my first batch of my own savings into The Rise To The Top and really had no idea what I was doing. Realize we were doing everything from production, promotion, marketing, advertising and everything in-between including cleaning bathrooms. I used a production studio to shoot our first episode. Nothing against this particular production studio, but after the first episode, I was called into their offices for a meeting.
“David,” they said, “We made a mistake. We realize we told you production would be one price for the season, but it is now going to be 2.5x times that price and we have to shoot the next episode in one week.”
Holy crap.

The doorbell rang.
“What the hell?! Who could this be early in the morning? None of my friends even know morning exists.”
It was the Delivering Happiness
book.
The advanced copies.
