25 Reasons Why You Should Quit Your Job And Do What You Want

Every-time I hear some talk about their passion and about quitting their job, I get overly happy… Until they say “I can’t wait ‘till retirement”. Then I cringe. DUDE, YOU CAN QUIT NOW, DO WHAT YOU WANT, AND BE SO MUCH HAPPIER IN LIFE!… And here are a few, slightly thought provoking, reasons why:

  1. If you wait until retirement you’ll be going on those dream vacations while your bones are old and brittle, and while your skin is saggy and easily irritated, which doesn’t sound like much fun to me.
  2. While on those vacations you’ll be moaning and bitching about how you should have done this sooner, and not when you were so old.
  3. When you get older, would you rather tell your children, and their children, about the adventure filled life you lived, or about how you spent the best years of your life in a cubicle?
  4. Does retirement really warrant you being talked down to and unappreciated for the majority of your life by an ungrateful boss?
  5. Meetings are pointless and suck. They SUCK.
  6. Mind-renting (which you are doing by staying at a job you don’t like) is not a very rewarding career.
  7. Fluorescent lights. Enough said.
  8. Having to inform people that you’d like time off two weeks in the future is stupid. Don’t you want to take time off when you need time off?
  9. Memos and speeches about ‘company compliance and politically correct words’ are a joke and are just asking to be broken.
  10. I didn’t know that was a consumer. I thought that was a real human being. My bad.
  11. Increased productivity in a job, doesn’t lead to more time off (surprisingly). It leads to you having to show extreme productivity in every area, all the time, from now on.
  12. In high school didn’t you “wait ‘till college” to do what you wanted? And in college didn’t you “wait ‘till after college” (whether you dropped out or not)? Why are you still waiting (and don’t say retirement)?
  13. The more value you bring to the job the more money you receive. Wait, oh that’s right, your paycheck stays the same and your boss gets the bigger.
  14. I didn’t know value was now being measured by how expensive your suit is, by how good you looked, or how expensive your new cellphone was. I thought it was about your character. Again, my bad.
  15. If you think about it, a job is one of the most unstable things to have. How many people do you know that had the same job for over 5 years? And in this economy.
  16. Speaking of unstable jobs, aren’t you giving one person (your boss) the power to cut off your income any time, any place?
  17. The world wants you to do what you want, because it knows that you will work your hardest and longest at that thing, and accomplish the most with it. While, surprisingly, being the happiest you’ve ever been.
  18. The answer to keeping a work-life balance is easy. Love what you do.
  19. “If you keep everything in your head then you can’t expect anyone else to appreciate your genius or trust your knowledge- they don’t know it exists.” ~ Aaron Wall
  20. Passive Income. Money while sleeping. Bliss.
  21. There is no other period of time where the ‘underdog’ had as much a chance to success as the ‘overdog’ as now, yes, right now, right this second. Thank you Internet.
  22. There is no other time period where there has been so much free knowledge accessible to so many people as now. Again, thank you Internet.
  23. Don’t you want to say “This is what I do, everyday” with a smile on your face.
  24. Let’s see how many rich and happy people work for other people. Hmm….
  25. And last but not least “You’re not crazy for thinking that you can have a better life”.

This article is on point. Mixing work with your passion is almost impossible. Stick to what makes you feel a sense of accomplishment and put your all into it; don’t look back or focus on “what if (excuses) goes wrong”.

Wow, I feel like I am getting another push. I too am one of those who longs for reason #3, presently fulfilling #6, and reasons 4, 8, 9, 12, 13, 23 seem to completely describe my feelings (although, I do agree with the rest of your reasons)!

I hope the push is big enough to make a change.
